We are delighted that you are interested in a semester abroad! We will be happy to support you in preparing and organising your period abroad at one of our partner universities around the world. We offer you various opportunities to spend one or two semesters abroad during your university studies via the Erasmus+ program within Europe or via Overseas Partnerships outside Europe and receive financial support for this. Ask us about funding options and scholarships!

The International Study Route

(exemplary course)

1st semester

You attend the SW department's information event on semester abroad, which is offered every year in November and June.

Important: Plan the necessary changes to your programme structure in the 1st semester! In semester 2, you will NOT study the project workshop (module 2.4). Instead, you will take one of the 5 ECTS credits seminars from the 3rd semester.

2nd semester

You apply for a semester abroad via the Erasmus+ or Overseas programs and register for the module "Project Workshop: International Course in Social Work" (information on application documents and deadlines can be found further down on this page).

3rd semester

In the 3rd semester you study:

  • International Course in Social Work (M 2.4 Project Workshop + M 7.2), 15 ECTS credits.

As well as 15 ECTS credits of regular modules:

  • M 3.1 Social Work Science III: Ethics/professional ethics and history of theory
  • M 3.2 Methods in social work IV: Social space and community work
  • M 3.3 Legal Perspectives I

4th semester

The 4th semester will be your semester abroad. The achievements from the semester abroad will be recognised in accordance with the Learning Agreement agreed before the semester abroad.

5th semester/6th semester

You can plan your work placement semester in the 5th or 6th semester.

Information on application and deadlines

With the Erasmus+ program, you can study for a semester at one of our European partner universities and fund your stay of at least three months (period of study abroad). Information on Erasmus+ funding.

Condition: You are enrolled at Fulda University of Applied Sciences and have completed your first academic year.

Erasmus+:

  • Fee-free university studies
  • Recognition of achievements gained abroad
  • Special grants for students with children and students studying with a disability

Application deadlines FB SW for the following academic year:

- 15 January for the winter semester

- 15 April for the summer semester

Erasmus+ application: You submit your application via the application portal. The application portal is open from 1 December to 15 January (application for the winter semester) and from 1 March to 15 April (application for the summer semester). An application is only possible during this period via the following link. Please read the application instructions carefully before you start. Further information and links can be found on the homepage of the International Office.

Learning Agreement: If your application is successful (confirmed place), please discuss your Learning Agreement with the department.
Your Learning Agreement must be finalised and signed by 30 June or 30 October at the latest.

North America, Asia, Australia, Africa - as a student at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, you have many opportunities to go abroad during your university studies. You can study abroad for a semester at one of our partner universities outside the EU and then have your achievements recognised.

- 15 January for the winter semester

- 30 May for the summer semester

Application: You submit your application via the application portal. The application portal is expected to be open from 1 December to 15 January (application for the winter semester) and from 15 April to 30 May (application for the summer semester). Learning Agreement: Discuss your Learning Agreement with the department in parallel to the application procedure. If your application is successful (place accepted), the Learning Agreement must be finalised and signed by 30 June or 30 October at the latest.

The special preparatory offer in the BASA-P International Study Route study programme takes place as part of the International Course in Social Work and lasts one semester.

Information about the International Course

Together with international exchange students from our partner universities from different countries, Fulda students take part in courses in English, visit social work facilities, develop projects, go on excursions, travel and much more. Apply for one of the limited places for Fulda students and prepare for your period abroad by socialising with international students and improving your English skills.

Conditions: You are studying BASA-P, have an interest in interculturality and have a good command of English.

  • Letter of motivation "International Study Route/International Course in Social Work" (max. 2 pages).

    • What are your expectations of this course and of your semester abroad?
    • What personal contribution do you think you can make to this course?
    • What competences qualify you for attendance of this offer?
    • What would you like to take away from this course for yourself and what can you offer other participants?

Have your achievements abroad recognised using our form:

After your period abroad, submit the completed and signed application for recognitiontogether with the Learning Agreement and the Transcript of Records from the foreign university digitally via your workflow in Mobility Online. The entries in the recognition form must correspond to the modules previously recorded in the Learning Agreement.

The documents are automatically uploaded to your departmental coordinator (Department of Social Work: Polina Gromykhalova, Polina.Gromykhalova@sw.hs-fulda.de) for further processing. After processing at the department, your recognition will be forwarded to the Student Administration Office for entry in Horstl. As a rule, the social services: benefits will be included in Horstl and the achievements will be credited to your regular university studies.
