Graduation ceremony with a touch of magic

In the packed Hall 8, Prof Dr Karim Khakzar, President of Fulda University of Applied Sciences, and Prof Dr Martina Ruhmland, Dean of the Department of Social Work, addressed the newly graduated social workers and their guests.

The subsequent speech was given this year by Prof Dr Umut Akkuş, who looked back on his career start as a young social worker.

The highlight of the evening was the honouring of all graduates on the large stage in the lecture room. The team of instructors from the SW department offered their congratulations and a small gift.

Before moving on to the champagne toast, Dean of Studies Prof. Dr Sabine Pfeffer, who hosted the course, terminated a small video shoot on the Mensa forecourt. Prof Dr Ruhmland and Prof Dr Akkuş spontaneously took on the leading roles in the so-called "Instagram Reel", which imitates an amateurish magic trick by the Berlin comedy duo "Siegfried & Joy". Fans around the world are photocopying the short clips by the two magicians, who have also been positioning themselves against right-wing extremism for some time.

The hope of reaching as many people as possible with the video was more than fulfilled when the clip was posted a few days later on the official Instagram channel of Siegfried & Joy (currently 2.7 million followers) in the "Magic Monday Compilation".
