Project description:
A Master's programme in "Psychosocial Counselling and Therapy" has been offered at the Department of Social Work at the University of Applied Sciences Fulda since the winter semester 2009. The programme aims to impart broad counselling competences as required in psychosocial and clinical fields of work in social practice. The breadth of the offer is reflected on the one hand in the effort to integrate different counselling concepts and therapeutic approaches and schools, and on the other hand in the consideration of relevant theories and research findings from a variety of scientific fields. In addition to teaching counselling-related methods and theories from psychology, social sciences, medicine and neuroscience, the focus is on exemplary case work. Essential elements are the examination of one's own personality in self-awareness modules and of one's own professionalism in supervision modules.
Since study programmes with the structure described hardly exist so far, an accompanying research project will examine whether and how the study programme is suitable for imparting counselling knowledge and counselling competences. The results of the accompanying research will be integrated into the conception, design and implementation of the study programme in the sense of ongoing quality assurance.
