Project description:

The project "Pretest survey in institutions" contributes to creating the methodological foundation for a representative survey (participation survey) on the living conditions of people with impairments and disabilities in Germany. An existing survey instrument from a preliminary study will be tested, adapted and further developed to include people with cognitive-communicative impairments who live in residential facilities for people with disabilities.

Prior to the pretest interviews, the instrument will be discussed and adapted in participatory focus groups with people with experience of disability. Afterwards, the survey is conducted by specially trained interviewers, especially with people with cognitive or mental impairments in four institutions of integration assistance. With just under 90 respondents, the pretest provides information on the goodness and usability of the survey, but also on the necessary training of the interviewers and on field access. In addition, the interview situation and the quality of questionnaire use are tested in tandem interviews.

Based on the results, an adapted questionnaire (with methodologically and content-wise tested components) will be presented for the main survey in institutions for people with disabilities. In addition, hints are given on how this can also be used to further develop the instrument for the household survey.
