Writing Workshop | SchreibNight 2018

We are entering the home stretch

Some things are still in the making, but it is certain that this time SchreibNight will once again open its doors in the Self-Study Centre from 5 pm to 2 am. At 5 p.m., it's time for everyone who wants to write in the company of others, get advice if needed, take a break in the SchreibNight Café and loosen up your muscles in the FiduS breaks offered by the University Sports Centre in cooperation with us.

Having trouble finding suitable literature? We are happy to offer individual research consultations in cooperation with the library. Two database professionals (also known as librarians) will be on site from 6 to 7 pm.

Still in the making are our one-hour mini-workshops, whose contents and individual times will be announced soon. Four workshops are planned - at 6, 8, 10 and 00 pm. Stay tuned!

Workshops
6 pmExperimenting with text beginnings - ca. 1,5 h

You will analyse text beginnings using examples and exchange your impressions. Afterwards you can experiment with your own work using your new knowledge.

20 hBreaking the block: Creatively reflecting on writer's block - ca. 1,5 h

The flat is cleaned. Piles of books and mountains of copied texts lie on the desk. The cursor flashes impatiently, but the fingers lie limp on the keyboard. Nothing happens. In the brain there is a mental ebb, an unpredictable tide or muddy tidal flats.

This workshop deals with why this is so and what you can do about it creatively and, above all, with pleasure.

10 pmQuoting without plagiarising - ca. 1.5 h

What is plagiarism? And how do I go about using sources to avoid unintentional plagiarism? The workshop is not an introduction to citation in general and is aimed at students who already have some experience in academic writing and reading.

24 h"Hey Prof!" - Writing effective emails
Teachers often complain that students cannot write emails that are appropriate for the context. In this workshop, you will use examples to work out what the problem points in e-mails might be, develop suggestions for improvement and, at the end, you will be able to write some thoroughly successful e-mails yourself.
What can you expect?
