The Deutschlandstipendium Scholarship

Talent meets Network

The Fulda University of Applied Sciences participates in the Deutschlandstipendium programme of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. These scholarships support particularly gifted and high-achieving students for one academic year from 1 October to 30 September. The Deutschlandstipendium supports students with 300 Euros per month - half of which is funded by the federal government and half by private sponsors. This is made possible thanks to sponsors from the region and throughout Germany.

It does not matter when you apply during this period for the awarding of scholarships. The selection of scholarship holders by our review committees only begins after the application deadline has expired.

The application deadline for funding from the winter semester 2026/27 is 1 August 2026. (subject to change)

2. Completing the online form

Please fill in the application form (at least the mandatory fields) and pay attention to the maximum character limits of each field. One part of the application is your motivation. You can pause the process at any time, save your entries, and log in again with your registration data.

3. Submission of your application

After finalizing your application, you can submit it. After submission, no further changes are possible. You will receive a confirmation of receipt by email.
Applications can be submitted until August 1 at 11:59 p.m. After this deadline, the application portal will close.

4. Possible follow-up questions

Please check your email inbox regularly for any questions regarding your application form.
If you have any questions during the process, please contact us at: deutschlandstipendium(at)hs-fulda.de

5. Feedback

You will receive information on whether you have been selected for funding around the end of September.

In the first step, you must attach a transcript of records to your application. If it becomes necessary to submit additional documents, we will contact you.

In your motivation letter, you address two main points: your personal and professional goals and how the scholarship supports you in achieving them (e.g. your plans after graduation, skills or experiences you want to develop, the importance of these goals, and how the scholarship helps through financial relief and more focus on your studies).

You also describe your civic engagement with concrete examples: where you are active, what your responsibilities are, and what experiences you have gained. You should also show which personal qualities and motivation characterize you.

Important: Write personally and concretely, use examples instead of general statements, stay authentic, and do not include your name, as the review process is anonymous.

Thefirst selection criterion is...

...for first-year students and Bachelor's students who have achieved fewer than 30 ECTS credits by the application deadline: the average grade of the university entrance qualification.

...for Bachelor's students who have achieved 30 or more ECTS credits: the average grade of the examination performances completed to date (examination performances that have not been graded are not taken into account when determining the average grade).

...for Master's students and applicants for a Master's degree: the final grade of the Bachelor's programme.

Further selection criteria are then:

  1. The motivation of the applicant*,

  2. special achievements, awards and prizes, previous occupation and internships,

  3. current extracurricular or extracurricular activities such as current voluntary work, current social or community involvement or current participation in associations or clubs,

  4. current special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, supervision of own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need for long-term care, active participation in the family business, current employment while studying, family origin or migration background.

The social services: benefits are weighted at 60%, the other criteria are weighted at 40%.

You can find this information in our funding guidelines for the Deutschlandstipendium at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

The average grade is calculated from the applications submitted within the selection procedure, so we cannot provide any information about the average grade in advance, so you should apply in any case.

Yes, the scholarship is initially approved for one year, but an extension is generally possible. After one year, you can take part in the application procedure again and will be managed by us as an applicant for further funding. We will then check whether you continue to fulfil the funding criteria. No legal entitlement to the scholarship passes.

The scholarship is paid in the event of a period abroad for study-related reasons. If you take a leave of absence, the scholarship will not be paid. You should therefore not apply for a scholarship if you already know that you want to take a leave of absence in the next two semesters.

No. Nevertheless, you must inform your BAföG grant office in charge that you have received the funding.

This depends on the type and amount of scholarship funding. If you already receive material funding based on talent and performance that amounts to an average of 30 euros or more per month, you will not receive a scholarship. Double funding through a combination with, among others, institution providing scholarships for outstanding students is excluded. Ideal scholarship programmes are excluded from this regulation. In case of doubt please get in touch with us.

For serious reasons, you can be supported for a maximum of 1 semester beyond the standard duration of studies (§8, Deutschlandstipendium 2018 sponsorship guidelines - German).

These are disabilities, chronic illnesses, pregnancy, nursing and raising a child or a period abroad related to your field of study.

In these cases, please fill out the following form digitally, sign it and either hand it in personally or send it to us by post. Please note that you must hand in the relevant evidence directly with the form.
