A semester abroad

The Department of Business offers support when planning a semester abroad. The semester abroad can be spent studying at a university abroad or completing an internship abroad.

The semester abroad is a mandatory part of the Bachelor International Business Administration. It can also be individually organized within all other study programs. Within the master study programs the study abroad semester may prolong the course of study from three to four semesters, but there are also ways to integrate it.

Study abroad

The Department of Business has many partnerships in Europe, North and South America, as well as some in Australia and Asia. Each university usually has a different focus. Enrolled students can obtain detailed information about each partner university from the department’s e-learning platform eFBW.

A second degree from a foreign university can be obtained both within the Bachelor International Business Administration and Master International Management. Further information on this can be found under the respective study program.

Studying abroad usually is subject to tuition fees. However, many partner universities offer fee waiver or a certain number of tuition-free study places. With most European partners funding is available through the Erasmus+ program of the EU.

Study abroad in Europe with Erasmus

If you are interested in studying abroad within the Erasmus + program of the EU, you may apply each year until February 15th for places available in the fall and summer of the next academic year. The application has to be handed in at the International Coordinator’s Office in the Department of Business. The application comprises a motivational letter, CV and the transcript of records. The selection will be undertaken by the Deanery of the department. Selection criteria are: average grade, language skills and further commitment (e.g. being active in the student body etc.).

Internship abroad

By completing an internship abroad you gain, next to professional experiences, intercultural competences and extend your professional and social network. Internships can be completed all over the world in companies as well as non-governmental organizations with a business division. The internship is usually compensated.

Many employers with an international orientation require graduates, who apply for a job, to have work experience abroad.

Internship abroad in Europe with Erasmus+

Internships in a member state of the European Union or the overseas territories, as well as in Turkey, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway can be funded by the Erasmus+ program.

The internship has to be in the country of destination for the whole period, there are further conditions which have to be fulfilled. Please find further information here: www.eu-placements.de
