A six-person delegation from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, visited Fulda University of Applied Sciences from June 29th to July 2nd, 2022 to discuss further possibilities for cooperation.

The visit was realized as part of the 45th anniversary and to promote networking activities between universities in Hesse and Wisconsin, and was financially supported by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art.
Both universities have been cooperating for many years within the Hessen-Wisconsin state cooperation, the UW Oshkosh has always been very popular with Fulda students, and vice versa, students from the USA like to come to the International Summer University at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

Since March 2022 there has also been a bilateral exchange agreement and memorandum of understanding between the two universities. It enables the direct exchange of students and teachers and sets the course for joint teaching and research projects.

The visit programme included joint meetings with members of Fulda University of Applied Sciences as well as individual meetings with the departments. "The American colleagues were visibly impressed by Fulda University of Applied Sciences, its courses, the laboratories, the green campus and the family atmosphere," reports Julia-Sophie Rothmann, Head of the International Office (IO).

The baroque buildings of Fulda and their history also fascinated the guests. After a city tour, they felt a bit at home and then explored the city on their own. The stay was rounded off with an excursion to the Point Alpha Memorial, where the group received an interesting and moving tour. "This really made our guests aware of the historical significance of this place - in particular the important role the USA played in the region for the citizens of the region during this difficult time," says Rothmann.

Initial plans have already been made for the next visit. Short stays with student groups and return visits to the UW Oshkosh are also conceivable. "Prof. Christian Fischer (Fulda University) and Prof. Dylan Chmura-Moore (UWO) will present their joint, transdisciplinary project "Sounds of Oshkosh/Sounds of Fulda", a creative symbiosis of music and computer science, in autumn this year," Rothmann announced.
