What is a
dual study programme?

The Fulda University of Applied Sciences currently offers a selection of 14 dual Bachelor and Master study programmes from the following departments: Applied Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Consumer Sciences, Nutritional, Food and Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Work and Business.

Conditions

The condition for admission to a dual study programme is usually a general or subject-restricted university entrance qualification or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences. Under certain circumstances, professionally qualified students can also study on a dual study programme.

Before prospective students can start a dual study programme, they must first apply to a practical placement partner of the university or look for a practical placement partner on their own. A degree in a learning agreement is required in all cases.

Special features

The dual study programme combines theoretical courses at Fulda University of Applied Sciences with practical placements in an enterprise or other institution:

  • You can use your newly acquired knowledge directly in practice.

  • You can discusscurrent issues from your day-to-day work in the courses.

  • You will gain valuable professional experience during the practical placements and thus create the best conditions for your job entry after your university studies!

  • You will receive a monthly remuneration from your practical placement partner during your university studies and are therefore independent of other sources of funding.

Structure

Both enterprises / institutions and educational establishments work closely together as partners in the dual study programme to ensure excellent theory-practice training. In addition to enterprises, other institutions, such as vocational training colleges in the "Dietetics" dual study programme at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, can also act as practical placement partners .

The dual study programme is therefore supported by three partners:

  • the student,

  • the enterprise / the institution / the vocational training college

  • the university.

The practical placement partner concludes a learning agreement with the student and a cooperation agreement with the university. In the learning agreement, the practical placement partner regulates the training content, the expire of the dual study programme and the laws and obligations of the dual student and the enterprise.

Dual study models

With a dual study programme, you will have a lot of practical experience and an academic degree in your pocket after around three years and, depending on the study model, an apprenticeship qualification as well. Different time models and study models allow you to start a programme that suits you perfectly.

The theory takes place in one of our two study models, depending on the study programme:

Integrated training programmes combine a university degree with professional training. In addition to the Bachelor's degree, it is possible to obtain a degree in a recognised training occupation.

Practice-integrated dual study programmes are characterised by a university degree combined with intensive practical placements. In a practice-integrated Bachelor's or Master's programme, you can acquire sound practical knowledge in addition to the respective academic degree.

Dual degrees

With a dual study programme, you will have a lot of practical experience and an academic year's degree in your pocket after three years and, depending on the type of study programme, an apprenticeship qualification.

A Bachelor's degree programme usually has a standard duration of six semesters, i.e. three years. The following degrees are currently awarded as part of dual study programmes in Hessen:

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

  • Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.Eng.)

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)

If they fulfil the conditions specific to their degree programme, dual students have the opportunity to follow their Bachelor's degree with a Master's degree. With this second degree, they can deepen their knowledge from their previous university studies or combine their previous specialisation with another discipline. A Master's study programme usually lasts 3 - 4 semesters, i.e. 1.5 - 2 years.

After the degree

At the end of the dual study programme, you will not only have the theoretical knowledge from lectures and seminars, but will also be familiar with everyday working life in a profession or industry.

After completing your degree, you can join your practical placement partner directly and take on a position of responsibility.

Of course, you can also decide to continue your training at the university and start a (dual) Master's degree programme, for example.
