uni-assist checks foreign transcripts of records for equivalence with a German university entrance qualification such as the Abitur. This can be a secondary school leaving certificate, depending on the country, possibly also in combination with a university entrance examination. It is also possible that applicants must have already completed additional achievements. In some cases, a first degree is already required to be able to start a Bachelor's programme in Germany.

Applicants are exempt from applying via uni-assist if they are

  • are currently or have been enrolled in studies at Fulda University of Applied Sciences and whose documents have already been examined by uni-assist
  • already have a Bachelor's degree from a German university and would like to use this as the basis for their Bachelor's application to Fulda University of Applied Sciences. In these cases, you can submit the application directly via our online application portal HORSTL.

As a general rule, every application must be received in full by the last day of the application deadline in order to be considered. We therefore recommend that you apply early. This allows you to submit any missing documents by the due date. Your application will still be considered for admission even if uni-assist does not send it until after the due date.

IMPORTANT NOTE for non-EU nationals:
Please note the early application deadline for the “Global Health” and "International Business and Management" study programme!

  1. Register in the My assist online portal.

At Fulda University of Applied Sciences, most Bachelor's programmes are offered entirely in German. However, there are also study programmes that are taught exclusively in English or in which both German and English skills are required. Please refer to the overview page of our study programmes to find out about the specific language requirements for your desired degree programme. If only the levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are listed there, only the evidence recognised by Fulda University of Applied Sciences will be recognised. If explicit evidence is specified, only this will be recognised.

English language requirements

If your school-leaving certificate is not recognised as a direct university entrance qualification in Germany, you must attend a preparatory course. You will usually need a German certificate at B2 level for this. Without recognition of your qualifications or attendance of the preparatory course, university studies in Germany are not possible. You can use the uni-assist database "Check Hochschulzugang" to check whether your degree is sufficient for directuniversitystudies or attendance at a preparatory course. Uni-assist often rejects applicants because the German B2 required for the preparatory course is missing, even if the desired study programme is conducted in English.

  1. Upon receipt of a complete application, uni-assist will check your documents against the formal criteria of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences. This usually takes several weeks. You can view the current processing times on the uni-assist website. uni-assist will inform you if any documents are missing. These can be submitted to uni-assist by the closing date for applications. We therefore strongly recommend that you submit your application early!
  2. If your documents fulfil the formal admission requirements, uni-assist will forward your data to the Student Administration Office of Fulda University of Applied Sciences for final examination and decision. You will be informed by email from uni-assist. If your documents do not fulfil all admission requirements, we will have to reject your application and inform you of this by email, including an official notification.
  3. For study programmes with restricted admission, all applications that meet the formal admission requirements will take part in the award procedure. This is carried out a few days after 15 July (winter semester)/ 15 January (summer semester) and you will receive an email with the result. For study programmes with open admission, we can usually inform you of the decision by email within four weeks of receiving your data from uni-assist.
  4. Admitted applicants will only be informed of the decision by email. It is therefore essential that you regularly examine the spam folder of your email account so as not to miss this important email! You will receive your access data for the university's online system, called HORSTL, with the admission email. There you can download your notification of admission. You must also accept your place via HORSTL and complete the online matriculation process.
  5. After logging into HORSTL, you will be shown if you need to submit additional documents for matriculation. You will not be informed of this in the notification of admission.
  6. Applicants who have to complete the preparatory course will be registered by the Fulda University of Applied Sciences for the entrance examination at the preparatory course in Kassel in June. You will receive a corresponding letter of invitation from us.

You can apply for a higher semester if you have already studied the same or a similar Bachelor's programme at another university and would like to continue your university studies with us. If you have a foreign university entrance qualification, this application must be submitted via uni-assist - even if you wish to transfer from a German university to us for a higher semester.

The following application periods apply for a higher semester via uni-assist:

  • Winter semester: 1 August to 31 August
  • Summer semester: 1 February to 28/29 February

Please note: When applying for a higher semester, all admission requirements must already be fulfilled. It is not possible to submit additional documents such as language certificates or similar.

For the degree programs “Global Health”, “International Business and Management”, “Social Work-Presence” and “Social Sciences for Intercultural Relations”, no registration via Hochschulstart is required when applying for a higher semester. This only applies to applications for the 1st semester.

An admission is only valid for the semester stated in the notification. It is not possible to automatically postpone admission to a later semester. You must apply again for the new semester via the route specified for your application group. Please note that most Bachelor's programmes at Fulda University of Applied Sciences are only offered in the winter semester.

The following Bachelor's programmes participate in the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV):

  • Global Health
  • International Business and Management
  • Social Work (attendance)
