Practical
They can put their newly acquired knowledge into practice straight away within the company.

As an independent, interdisciplinary field, Business Informatics combines the content and methods of business administration and computer science. This enables problems to be tackled successfully and complex systems to be adapted, further developed and maintained.
Business informatics provides answers to questions by supporting companies in organising their internal and external information and communication flows.
Business IT specialists work at the interface between business and IT departments, and their role requires the ability to think in an interdisciplinary manner.
In the dual study programme, you can combine theory and practice in the best possible way. You’ll get to know both sides and can apply your newly acquired knowledge in practice or discuss questions arising from your day-to-day work at the university. By alternating between study periods at the university and work placements in a company, theoretical knowledge can be put into practice straight away.
The dual Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Informatics lasts 6 semesters and is structured so that you alternate between periods at the university and at your placement partner’s organisation. During the lecture term, you will be at the university 4 days a week. You may also spend one day – the work placement day – at your placement partner’s organisation. During the non-teaching period, you will work full-time at your industry partner’s premises. You will be excused from work to sit your exams. You can view the schedule in more detail in our programme outline.
To deepen the practical link between the university and the company, you will complete a number of practical modules. In these modules, you will agree on a suitable topic with your placement partner, enabling you to apply the topics you have learnt in a much more practical way. You can find an overview of all the modules in our curriculum.

Upon completion of the dual degree programme in Business Informatics, you’ll have excellent career prospects, as you’ll have relevant practical experience to complement your theoretical knowledge. This makes you the ideal candidate for a direct entry into a position of responsibility within a company, as there is hardly a business process that is not supported by IT.
Business IT specialists plan, develop, implement and maintain business information and communication systems. To do this, they analyse the business processes and organisational structures of companies and public sector organisations.
