Business IT (Bachelor)

MORE THAN JUST A CROSS-DISCIPLINARY SUBJECT

As an independent, interdisciplinary specialist field, business informatics combines the content and methods of business administration and computer science. This enables problems to be successfully solved and complex systems to be adapted, further developed and nursed.

Business IT provides answers to questions by helping enterprises to organise their internal and external information and communication flows.

  • How do automotive companies organise their supply chains "just in time"?
  • How do online mail order companies suggest books that others have also bought?
  • How do mobile phone companies identify customers who are about to terminate their contracts in order to provide them with better offers?
  • How can expiries in enterprises and administrations be digitised?

The work of graduates in business informatics takes place at the interfaces between subject and IT divisions and requires the ability to think in an interdisciplinary way.

The study programme can be completed as a classroom-based course or as a dual study programme.

If you want to study business IT, you should enjoy logical thinking and be interested in business expiries. In addition, the ability to work in a team, communication skills and social competence are required, as projects are almost exclusively developed in a team. Good English skills are advantageous for university studies of the specialist literature, which is often in English. No previous knowledge of computer science is required. All basics are taught in the first semesters.

The study programme is divided into six semesters. In addition to imparting specialised knowledge and soft skills, great importance is attached to the practical relevance of the content taught.
In addition to a solid basic training in the subject areas of business administration and computer science, the university studies impart competences in the social sciences and law - and the possibility of individual specialisation also passes.

The strong practice orientation of the study programme is reflected not only in the content, but also in the form of the courses. In addition to lectures, the programme focuses on student presentations, group work and practical projects. In the sixth semester, you will first complete an internship in an enterprise or institution and then complete your thesis. During their university studies, students have access to the latest software from the field of business IT.

Graduates of the study programme are able to work at the interface between applications, developers and business administrators and are able to successfully implement academic methods and techniques in professional practice.

You can also study the business IT study programme on a dual basis and optimally combine theory and practice. You get to know both sides and can use your newly acquired knowledge in practice or discuss questions from your everyday work at the university.

The practical component is firmly integrated into your university studies, with regular alternation between practice in the enterprise and theory on campus. During the lecture-free period, you will be at the enterprise or on holiday. You take your examinations at the end of the semester.

A number of regional enterprises offer the dual study programme in cooperation with Fulda University of Applied Sciences. You do not have to transfer your place of residence for the phases at the practical placement partner or at the university. As the practical placement partners invest in your training, the chances of being taken on by many enterprises are very good. You will also have excellent career opportunities in a wide range of industries.

University entrance qualification,

On the pulse the time

Business IT applications have become indispensable in all areas of the economy. There is now hardly a business process that is not supported by IT technology. Graduates in business informatics plan and develop operational information and communication systems, implement them and maintain them. To do this, they analyse the business processes and organisational structures of enterprises and administrations.

Business informatics is one of the most interesting, versatile and promising subjects and, according to leading business organisations and specialist institutions [e.g. BitKOM trade association, Association of German Engineers (VDI), German Informatics Society (GI)], the demand for well-qualified computer scientists will (once again) increase rapidly in the future.

Students and alumni share their experiences Impressions from the study program
