Related to practice
You will receive training as a food engineer that is related to practice and based on science.
Most of the food we buy in the supermarket is industrially produced. Agricultural raw materials such as grain are processed in many steps before being sold as food. In the process, they are chemically, physically and microbiologically modified. Food technology is therefore an interdisciplinary engineering science.
The Bachelor's degree programme in Food Technology offers students training related to practice in food engineering based on academic research. The entire food chain ("From Farm to Fork") is analysed from a technological, technical, economic and scientific perspective.
You can complete the study programme either fully or partially in German or English. If you opt for modules in English, you will prepare yourself for international employers.
To make it easier for you to start your university studies, we recommend our preliminary courses in mathematics and chemistry, which are offered a few weeks before you start your degree programme. We offer specialist support in the form of tutorials for many modules in the first two semesters. Our student mentors are your contact persons for all questions relating to your university studies.
The Bachelor's programme in Food Technology has a modular structure and starts in the winter semester. The standard duration of studies is 7 semesters (210 ECTS credits). As a rule, 6 modules are completed per semester.
The programme content is generalist in nature and broadly diversified. In contrast to other study programmes, there is no early specialisation or focus on specific products. Instead, the focus is on a broad range of applications. You can find examples of modules in the following table.
The modules of the study programme are offered in English and German. You can apply for the B.Sc. Food Technology programme in the application portal. Your language skills will be examined. This will determine whether you study in German, English or a free choice of language. You can find out more under the language requirements.
Fulda University of Applied Sciences offers various language courses that you can use to improve your missing language skills. We will be happy to help you find suitable programs to support you.

In the first semesters, you will learn the necessary basic knowledge in the form of compulsory modules. In the following semesters, you will deepen your knowledge. Please note that you must complete a basic internship of 8 weeks by the beginning of the 4th semester. You can set individual specialisations through an extensive offer of compulsory elective modules. In the seventh semester, you will enter the practical placements and complete your Bachelor's thesis.
Pharmaceutical Technology is a speciality of the Food Technology degree programme in Fulda. It expands the future field of work of our graduates.
Detailed information on the programme can be found in the module overview (see Downloads).
The integration of a semester abroad or work placement abroad is particularly possible in the second half of the programme. We support you within the framework of scholarship programmes (e.g. Erasmus) and the Food Technology PLUS study programme.
The university studies impart knowledge and competences in natural sciences, process engineering, food technology and business sciences. Individual specialisation is possible during university studies, in particular through the selection of compulsory elective modules in the higher semesters.
The study programme can be studied in an eight-semester "Bachelor's degree in Food Technology PLUS", which comprises an integrated two-semester period abroad. Applications for this are possible after the third semester. Further information can be found on the website of the Department of Food Technology.

”Hello, My name is Alina and I studied the Bachelor's programme in Food Technology at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. I have long been interested in where our food comes from, how it is produced and what it takes to produce it. The university studies cover a very broad range of teaching areas, giving me the opportunity to gain a great deal of insight into the food industry and admitting me to a lot of freedom of choice in my future career. In any case, the food technology study programme at Fulda University of Applied Sciences offers you an exciting, thrilling and practice-oriented course of study, which I can only recommend.

”Hello, My name is Konstantin Kleinod. The Bachelor's degree in food technology is admittedly a demanding university studies programme, but in my opinion it is highly interesting. I particularly like the fact that all natural sciences are combined with technical subjects. This means, for example, that there is a concrete link between chemistry and food. In summary, I can only recommend the study programme to anyone who is interested in science and technology in relation to food. The university studies are interesting and varied and I also think the study environment is ideal.
“
”It was already clear to me during my school days that I wanted to work in the food industry in the future. I wanted to work in the food industry in the future. The study programme gives me the opportunity to acquire a broad wide range of knowledge about the complex processes involved in the food industry. I would make the same decision again at any time and wish you lots of fun and success on your way through your university studies.
