The national and international food industry offers exciting prospects for the future. The International Food Business and Consumer Studies programme combines academic work with practical approaches and examines the entire food value chain.

The programme focuses on topics such as consumer research, management, product development and certification. This degree programme is ideal for anyone who wants to make a difference in the dynamic world of the food sector.

The on-campus programme has a standard duration of four semesters of full-time study and combines the strengths of the two cooperating universities. In the first three semesters, students complete seven compulsory modules in the fields of natural sciences, social sciences and economics.

In addition, they can choose five modules depending on their interests and qualifications. During their studies, students choose a one-year study project from a range of options in order to deepen their subject-specific, interdisciplinary and intercultural project management skills. In the fourth semester, they write their Master's thesis. The degree is awarded as a joint degree by Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the University of Kassel.

In this study project, students learn how to plan, implement, document, evaluate and reflect on complex projects. The focus is on how research and development in the food industry relate to consumer research. Students work on interdisciplinary problems using scientific methods and cooperate with businesses or organisations in the international food sector.

The 'Advanced Research Project' module runs over two semesters and offers an advantage for professional careers through the implementation of knowledge and practical experience.

The two partner universities do not charge tuition fees, but there is a semester fee of around 390 euros. This includes a ticket for local public transport. Health insurance is compulsory, with a contribution of around €110 per month until the age of 30, and at least €190 per month thereafter. There is also a fee for public broadcasting of around €20 per month.

In total, students can expect to pay between €800 and €1,000 per month, including rent and the cost of living. Without or with only limited German skills, job opportunities are very limited. Students must ensure that their financial situation for their period of study in Germany is on a sound footing. They must provide evidence that they or a guarantor can fund their personal expenses during their stay.

International students can apply for a scholarship from numerous organisations, for example the DAAD, party-affiliated foundations or business-related institutions. You can find information on the various types of scholarships and suitable offers in the DAAD scholarship database.

Career opportunities through alumni network

The food industry opens up a wide range of career opportunities. There are career opportunities at both national and international level in academic positions in the food industry or in management roles in the food industry. Intercultural competences are of particular importance here.

The focus is on the topics of quality, innovation and information management, consumer-orientated product development and international marketing. An active alumni network provides guidance and supports a lively exchange.

The Master's programme prepares graduates for responsible and managing positions in food companies and related organisations. It offers a multidisciplinary approach that integrates areas such as food, business and consumer sciences. Professionals who have a sound understanding of these areas have excellent career prospects in the food sector. Graduates are sensitive to cultural differences and recognise the importance of regional supply chains.

In their current positions, our graduates are involved in product development, quality management, stakeholder management, certification, marketing, sales, research and education. They also pass the opportunity to pursue a postgraduate degree (PhD).
