Become an engineer
Study interdisciplinary electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.

Mechatronics - this is where the fields of mechanical engineering, electronics and information technology merge. The term has come to stand for an interdisciplinary approach to the development, production and marketing of modern products and systems.
On the Mechatronics study programme, you will therefore acquire skills in the design, development and operation of innovative devices that simultaneously contain mechanical, electronic and information technology components. The department also focuses on teaching methodological knowledge in order to fulfil current requirements from industry and business.
There are four variants of the Mechatronics study programme at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. The Integra programme is aimed at international students who are developing their German skills in parallel with their university studies.
They should be curious enough to want to get to the bottom of things. And you should also have the determination to solve tricky questions. We take an interest in electronic, mechanical and mathematics issues for granted. What is also important is to be able to think outside the box and consider the bigger picture. After all, mechatronics engineers have to solve complex tasks. And that requires one thing above all: teamwork. If you are interested in technology but don't want to miss out on working with other people, this is the right place for you.
The standard duration of studies for the Bachelor's degree programme in Mechatronics is seven semesters. The study programme is divided into four semesters of basic university studies and the three-semester specialisation course that builds on this. In line with the career orientation of the study programme, the content passes modules in information technology, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering.
While only compulsory modules are offered in the first four semesters, you set your own individual specialisation in the fifth and sixth semesters by choosing compulsory elective modules and individual project work. In the final 7th semester, during the 15-week practical placements, you will acquire additional practical skills in the professional appointment process and provide evidence of your ability to solve problems independently with your Bachelor's thesis.
There are four versions of the Renewable Energies study programme at Fulda University of Applied Sciences: As full-time studies on site on campus, as a dual study programme in cooperation with an enterprise and extended practical placements, as extended full-time studies on site with additional supervision in the basic subjects and as a study programme with adapted language requirements, in which international students start with fewer German skills and can extend their knowledge in the extended programme structure.

After completing your Bachelor's degree, you can go on to qualify for a Master's programme or start your career straight away. Hardly any other university studies programme offers such a diverse range of applications for graduates as mechatronics. Possible professional fields include mechanical and plant engineering, the industrial and consumer goods sector, the automotive industry, aerospace technology, information and communications technology, robotics and medical technology.
There is a trend towards the digitisation of products and services in almost all industries, which often require products developed and operated by mechatronics engineers. Mechatronics engineers therefore work in enterprises of very different sizes and are in demand in a wide variety of areas: for example in development, sales, project planning, product management, commissioning or consulting.

The study programme is an offer of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Find out more about your new environment, teaching, laboratories and your future professors on the department's website.
We offer various preliminary courses so that you can start your university studies optimally prepared.
