After completing your university studies, you can work globally as an academic nurse.

  • You are interested in interpersonal relationships and enjoy communicating.
  • You want to support people in difficult living conditions and thus bring about positive changes in their lives.
  • You enjoy working in a team and are good at organising and planning.
  • You are interested in topics such as anatomy, physiology, medicine and psychology.
  • You would like to learn practical nursing skills and abilities and combine these with academic research from theory and practice.

  • Practical placements alternate with theoretical phases throughout the university studies.
  • Practical university studies are supported by both practice instructors and university support staff at the facilities.
  • Teaching at the university includes a high proportion of practical teaching, which takes place in state-of-the-art skills labs.
  • In four years, students obtain their professional licence with a state examination and an academic Bachelor's degree.

The modules in the first semester teach the basics of health and nursing sciences in order to build up specialist nursing skills and knowledge in the first step. Specific topics taught here include health promotion, the nursing process, evidence-based nursing, human anatomy and support for activities of daily living in seminars and practical teaching units.

Modules in the second semester build on these basics; further nursing phenomena are discussed and related nursing skills are taught, in-depth nursing science theories are developed and further physiological and pathophysiological expertise is acquired.

In semesters 3-6, specific nursing contexts are developed, reflecting the different and generalist nature of specific nursing contexts. The content of the study programme enables students to provide nursing care to people of all ages. Modules in these semesters provide insights into specific nursing contexts (perioperative nursing, nursing in obstetrics and paediatrics, psychiatric and neurological nursing, nursing of the elderly, nursing of people with oncological diseases); however, the fundamentally generalist approach is taken into account in all modules and extends systematically throughout the entire university studies in accordance with the age phases (child/adult/elderly and very elderly).

In semesters 7 and 8, the written, oral and practical parts of the state examination are carried out in addition to the Bachelor's thesis.

University entrance qualification, submission of a contract for practical training with a facility cooperating with Fulda University of Applied Sciences in the dual study programme in accordance with Section 7 (1) of the Nursing Professions Act as well as a current transcript of records certifying that he/she is suitable in terms of health to carry out the appointment of a nursing professional and submission of an extended certificate of good conduct.
