University studies related to practice

Content, examinations and internships are based on real-life professional appointments.

The "Education for Health Professions" study programme is suitable for experienced health system professionals who wish to change their career direction towards teaching. They should have an interest in imparting knowledge and want to support future generations of professionals on their training path. An understanding of the wider context of the health system and current needs and trends is also helpful.

Fulda University of Applied Sciences is a state university, so there are no tuition fees. You will need a university entrance qualification for university studies. If you do not have a university entrance qualification, you can find more information here: Studying at university without a high-school-leaving certificate

Please note: There are three education study programmes at the Department of Health Sciences:

The study programmes qualify students for different types of schools. While a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Health Education enables you to teach in the state education system at vocational schools, a degree in Education for Health Professions qualifies you as a teacher in the health system of your own health profession. The study programmes also differ in their structure and admission requirements.

A degree in Nursing Education is offered exclusively as part of the study programmes in Healthcare Education. You can then work as a teacher at a nursing school.

The study programme is organised according to the principle of blended learning, i.e. attendance and self-study are transferred alternately. The semesters are not based on the usual lecture periods and each last 20 weeks. There are four attendance blocks per semester from Thursday to Saturday at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, while the rest of the time you are largely flexible in terms of time and location, completing e-learning modules and investing time in self-study.

The learning and workload comprises attendance at face-to-face and online courses, preparation and follow-up of contact hours, research, reading, university studies and examination performance, office hours and peer group exchanges.

It is calculated according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Between 5 and 15 ECTS credits are awarded per module, with 1 ECTS credit corresponding to 25 hours of workload. The workload for university studies is therefore around 25 hours per week and allows for part-time occupation.

Out of a total of 180 ECTS credits, 60 ECTS credits are recognised for your training and professional experience in a health profession.

Please note: The study programme is currently being planned. All information is therefore subject to change.

The attendance days are always from Thursday to Saturday.
