Collaboration

The university studies programme is geared towards learning and working together in teams and groups.

Related to practice

Practical lessons and practical training in the profession are well coordinated.

  • You enjoy reading and learning, but also like working with your hands. Above all, you enjoy working with employees. You can develop the ambition to understand complex issues.
  • The subjects of sport, biology and chemistry suit you well. Reading English texts is not too much of a problem.
  • You have a high sense of responsibility, a willingness to learn, social and emotional competence and commitment.
  • To maximise the benefits of your university studies for your professional development, you should be able to learn and work in a self-employed and responsible manner, make decisions based on academic research and act accordingly. The university studies programme is geared towards learning and working in teams and groups and transferring and applying the competences you have acquired to professional practice. You will also develop the necessary communication competences during your university studies.

The core element of physiotherapy is movement. You should enjoy movement yourself and be able to communicate this. The work of a physiotherapist is very close to the body.

The university studies are based on academic research and at the same time very related to practice. You will acquire the competences you need for your professional career:

  • Comprehensive practical competences and theoretical knowledge in all application fields of physiotherapy. The course content is based on the latest academic research and is taught in an applied manner.
  • Practical experience with the application of physiotherapy: You will immediately use the knowledge and practical skills you have acquired during the semester in our cooperation centres. One-day internships during the semester prepare you specifically for this.
  • The ability to conduct academic research: You will learn to research new scientific findings in a self-employed manner, critically examine them and put them into practice, as well as how to write academic texts.
  • Basic medical knowledge
  • Basic psychosocial and communication competences
  • Sound knowledge of current health policy and economic framework conditions in the health system
  • The professional qualification for the upcoming expansion of the field of activity: in particular, you will be able to question and examine patients and clients in a targeted manner (assessment), recognise any risks that may pass (screening), determine the content of physiotherapy treatments self-employed (direct access) and objectify the success of treatment (quality assurance).

Practical lessons are interwoven into the modules. This combines the knowledge acquired in theory with practical implementation. The practical lessons take place in our modern, well-equipped practice rooms and skills laboratories.

Physiotherapy serves to maintain health, supports patients in learning health-promoting behaviour and initiates healing processes. It can positively influence the course of illnesses, minimise impairments in everyday life, profession and sport and improve quality of life. Physiotherapy benefits people in almost all areas of life:

  • Premature babies and infants: especially in the case of maturation disorders (e.g. of the lungs)
  • Children and adolescents: especially for malformations, developmental disorders and disabilities (e.g. of the spine and nervous system)
  • Young adults: especially for fitness during university studies, training, professional training and leisure activities (e.g. joint, muscle and tendon pain)
  • Athletes: especially during training and rehabilitation after sports injuries (e.g. cruciate ligament injuries)
  • Pregnant women: especially before and after giving birth (e.g. pelvic floor weakness)
  • Occupations: especially in the prevention and treatment of work-related and stress-related illnesses (e.g. heart attacks) and chronic conditions (e.g. back pain)
  • People with special risks: in particular vascular and metabolic diseases (e.g. high blood pressure and diabetes)
  • People in mortal danger: in intensive care units and specialised clinics (e.g. paraplegia or stroke)
  • People in life crises: with mental health problems and illnesses (e.g. anorexia)
  • Older people: especially in the case of degenerative processes (e.g. osteoarthritis) or imminent loss of self-employment (e.g. at risk of falling)
  • People at the end of life: primarily to provide relief in the event of unavoidable illnesses (e.g. anxiety and pain)

Physiotherapists work closely as part of a team with many other professional groups. The interdisciplinary nature of the profession makes it multifaceted and offers the opportunity to develop and specialise according to one's own interests and abilities.

In the physiotherapy study programme, we organise your practical placement. You will be prepared for your practice units during your studies. Practical teaching in the skills and simulation rooms at the university and practical training in the professional field are well coordinated. During the practice units, you will be trained by practice instructors and experienced colleagues and supported by the university's practice assistants. At the end of each practical placement, you will reflect on and evaluate your experiences and competences with us.

Career opportunities after university studies

Physiotherapy is an integral part of the health system with a diverse and challenging field of work. Physiotherapists work in the inpatient and outpatient areas of curative care and rehabilitation as well as in the field of prevention, for example in workplace health promotion.

During your university studies, you will acquire a professional licence as a physiotherapist. This opens up all professional fields of physiotherapy in Germany to you. You can work as part of preventative measures offered by health insurance providers, in physiotherapy practices, in acute and rehabilitation clinics, in care facilities, in the fitness and wellness sector, in sports clubs, in the management of a physiotherapy department or in occupational health promotion.

Thanks to their academic training, graduates of the programmes offered in physiotherapy can work as academic research assistants at colleges or universities, where they can work on projects or in clinical or social sciences research. In consecutive programmes offered, they have the opportunity to complete a Master's degree in research, education, management or public health, for example, directly after their university studies or at a later date.
