The "Psychosocial Counselling and Therapy in Social Work" university studies programme aims to provide social workers or social pedagogues working in the field of counselling with a university degree (BA/Diploma) with further academic qualifications. It enables higher and further qualification through the expansion of theoretical and methodological knowledge and its reflective testing. During their university studies, students acquire the necessary key and specialist qualifications to work independently and responsibly in the field of Psychosocial Counselling and Therapy.
The study programme is a part-time university studies course in a blended learning format.
The Master's programme "Psychosocial Counselling and Therapy in Social Work" (MaBeTh) is aimed at people who are already working as advisers in the relevant fields of social work and are seeking a higher professional qualification and/or a new position in the field of counselling. At the same time, the programme teaches the practical research and management skills graded for managerial, research or planning fields of work in social work.
The university studies comprise 15 modules. 8 modules are offered as e-learning modules, each of which runs for half a semester. 4 modules are on-campus modules. 2 further so-called reflective modules also take place as face-to-face events. In addition, there is the thesis module with the Master's thesis. All modules are compulsory modules.
In line with the blended learning approach, content that does not require students to be physically present is taught in online modules. This relieves students of attendance phases that are not absolutely necessary - and the associated travelling, overnight stays and days of absence. This makes it easier to combine university studies with professional and family commitments.
Students study the following specialisations:
First degree course with a final grade of at least 2.0 in a social work study programme; this degree comprises either 210 ECTS credits or, in addition to the 180 ECTS credits gained from a Bachelor's degree, evidence of 30 ECTS credits from the university/state recognition.
Furthermore, evidence of at least 15 hours and, as a rule, no more than 30 hours of occupation in a field of social work demonstrably related to the content of the Master's programme must be provided.
Applicants who have not applied for their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking facility must provide evidence of German skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (DSH-2 or equivalent).
With German educational certificates: 15 April to 15 July
With foreign educational certificates: 1 March to 15 July

The main career opportunities lie in counselling fields of social work. Regardless of the specific field of work, advisory services, methodological and management skills are essential key competences and are often cited as central recruitment requirements in job offers.
A Master's degree opens up the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree. In collaboration with the Fulda, RheinMain and Frankfurt Universities of Applied Sciences, doctoral degrees are possible as part of the joint doctoral research centre for social work.

The study programme is an offer of the Department of Social Work. Find out more about your new environment, the teaching and your future professors on the department's website.
