Public health combines research with its application and implementation. Internationally, public health is a widespread form of continuing university education and a condition for taking on organisational tasks in health system design and health care.
The restoration and strengthening of the health of the population, including disadvantaged population groups, is influenced by social, political, economic and environmental conditions. If you are interested in understanding and shaping these processes, you have come to the right place. On the Master's programme in Public Health you will learn how to
Through the selection of compulsory elective modules, the choice of research project and the topic of the Master's thesis and, if applicable, a semester abroad, you can develop specialisations in different areas of public health, e.g. in the design of care structures, in prevention, health promotion and health protection or in research relevant to public health.
Public Health is a research-oriented Master's degree programme in accordance with international curricular agreements. If you spend a semester abroad at a partner university, the specialisations there will count towards your university studies. During the lecture period, regular courses take place on Mondays and Tuesdays.
From the start of your university studies, you will be trained in health science research. Building on your previous knowledge, the Research Methods module teaches you how to develop an appropriate research design, use quantitative and qualitative methods, present research results and evaluate research. You will acquire application-related research skills as part of a research project that focuses on concrete research work in small groups over two semesters, as well as in the areas of epidemiology, writing for publication, economic evaluation and health technology assessment. In the second and third semesters, you will set individual specialisations through the selection of two compulsory elective modules and one of the international modules.
In the fourth semester, you will engage in independent applied research as part of your Master's thesis. Course projects and Master's theses can be integrated into externally funded projects of the department.
Compulsory elective modules:

In our Master's degree programme in Public Health at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, you will qualify for academic management and development tasks:

”I chose the Master's programme in Public Health at Fulda University of Applied Sciences because the university has an excellent reputation. In addition, the university studies are structured in such a way that it is possible to have a family and work life on the side. My experience of the online semester was mostly positive, the teaching worked perfectly and I also managed to build a good relationship with some of my fellow students.

”I chose the Master's programme because the course content is varied and ties in very well with my Bachelor's degree in the subject of health promotion. I set my specialisations by choosing modules in the areas of "Social Epidemiology", "Ageing in Europe" and "Normative and Strategic Management in Healthcare Facilities". After my university studies, I would like to work as an academic researcher in public health research.

”The study programme combines my interests in health, research, politics, the environment and society and provides insights into a wide range of topics. The university offers a pleasant learning atmosphere, close supervision of students, opportunities to get involved and a great student life! The specialisations I have chosen include Health Technology Assessment and Health Economic Evaluation and Sexual and Reproductive Health in International Comparison.

”I study in Fulda because I can continue to pursue my occupation, but the university studies do not have the character of a "distance learning programme", where you would largely be on your own. There is regular contact between students and lecturers (even during the pandemic) and there are structured courses. I have been working in the clinical field for years and would like to expand my knowledge to the public health level through university studies.
