Expand management competences in the field of community psychiatry

The "Social work with a specialisation in community psychiatry" study programme is a social sciences-oriented, part-time consecutive study programme for university graduates in the field of community psychiatry.

The Master's programme aims to provide professional practitioners in the field of psychiatry with further academic qualifications by systematically expanding their theoretical and methodological knowledge. In addition to academic and research-related competences, it also imparts competences specific to organisational development, prepares students for management functions in professional practice or systematically expands on their pass management competences.

Psychology

You will learn to understand mental illness and how to use crisis management methods.

The study programme is aimed at people who work in the field of community psychiatry, in inpatient or outpatient settings. It is of interest to anyone who works with clients with mental disorders in the context of addiction support, disability support, youth support or integration support. The university studies provide access to the strategies of person-centred and socio-spatial development of support arrangements. It offers the opportunity to qualify for management positions or for graduates of other study programmes to further qualify specifically in the field of social work and community psychiatry.

During the university studies, 90 credit points must be earned in accordance with the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). Two thirds of the university studies take place as e-learning modules (8 modules) via an internet-based e-learning platform. The e-learning platform offers various forms of interaction for instructors and students. One third of the university studies are face-to-face. In addition to a three-day opening event, the on-campus study days take place once a month as a two-day block.

Evidence of a first degree course (Bachelor's degree, first degree) in a social work study programme with a final grade of at least 2.5 and a total of 210 ECTS credits.

Previous professional experience of at least 1 year in a professional field of social work relevant to community psychiatry and at least 15 hours, but no more than 30 hours, of occupation in a field of social work that can be demonstrably assigned to the content of the Master's programme.

In the case of a degree from another academic study programme with a Bachelor's degree, Magister or Diplom, evidence of at least 4 years of relevant professional experience in the specialisation of community psychiatry must be provided.

If only 180 ECTS credits were acquired as part of a Bachelor's degree, the missing 30 ECTS credits can be recognised for state recognition in accordance with the Social Professions Recognition Act, for continuing education and / or credited bridge courses and modules taken alongside the degree from another Master's programme in the maps network, or for evidence of at least one year of relevant professional practice after the first degree. In justified exceptional cases, periods prior to the acquisition of the access requirements may be counted towards the duration of occupation if the occupation is relevant and was carried out at an appropriate qualification level.

Applicants who have not applied for their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking facility must provide evidence of German skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (DSH-2 or equivalent).

Their competences are needed in the services and facilities of social and community psychiatry, integration assistance, disability assistance and youth welfare. Their competence in cross-agency cooperation and the organisation of person-centred assistance, as well as their practical research skills, are required in the context of management activities. The Master's degree opens the way to a doctoral degree. This can be done at the inter-university doctoral research centre for social work at the Hessian universities of applied sciences Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. Additional cooperation agreements with the universities of Kassel and Frankfurt are in place. Attendance at the nationwide social psychiatry doctoral colloquium organised by Charité Berlin and the DGSP is possible.
