The study programme "Social work with specialisation in social space development and organisation" provides specialisation in social space-related social work in all fields of action (e.g. in child and youth welfare, disability support, migration work, work with the elderly, educational work). The study programme imparts knowledge in methods and concepts of social space development and organisation, the practice of social space research, research methods, management and social enterprises.
The study programme deepens theoretical access to social work and to social processes of social differentiation and socio-spatial disparities. It creates access to the strategies of individuals and institutions to shape, manage and control social space processes.
The programme is aimed at people who want to expand and specialise their knowledge and skills in social space-related professional work. Over 5 semesters, you will qualify for planning, management, coordination and research activities in participatory development projects and processes. Their competences are needed in local social policy, the social housing industry, international development cooperation, the development and management of organisations in the "third sector", in local labour market and economic policy, in community economics, in neighbourhood management and in social urban and regional development.
The study programme is run jointly by the Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences (Wiesbaden). Two thirds of the university studies are carried out as e-learning modules, one third as face-to-face studies. The on-campus stages take place at Rhein Main University of Applied Sciences in the first year and at Fulda University of Applied Sciences in the second year and are organised as blocks of two to three days, four times per semester. Recognition for educational leave entitlements is possible. An e-learning platform is used in which the e-learning modules are appointed and which offers various forms of interaction for instructors and students.
The participating universities have the independent right to award doctoral degrees and operate the doctoral research centre for social work in Hesse.
Evidence of a first degree course (Bachelor's degree, first degree) in a social work study programme with a final grade of at least 2.5 and a total of 210 ECTS credits.
Previous professional experience of at least 1 year in a professional field of social work relevant to social space development and social space organisation.
At least 15 hours and no more than 30 hours of occupation in a field of social work related to the content of the Master's programme.
In the case of a degree from another academic study programme with a Bachelor's, Magister or Diplom degree that is related to the content of the Master's programme, evidence of at least 4 years of relevant professional experience in the specialisation of community psychiatry must be provided.
If only 180 ECTS credits were acquired as part of a Bachelor's degree, the missing 30 ECTS credits can be recognised for state recognition in accordance with the Social Professions Recognition Act, for continuing education and / or credited bridge courses and modules taken alongside the degree from another Master's programme in the maps network, or for evidence of at least one year of relevant professional practice after the first degree. In justified exceptional cases, periods prior to the acquisition of the access requirements may be counted towards the duration of occupation if the occupation is relevant and was carried out at an appropriate qualification level.
Applicants who have not applied for their university entrance qualification at a German-speaking facility must provide evidence of German skills at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (DSH-2 or equivalent).

With foreign educational qualifications: 15 October to 15 January

Their competences are needed in child and youth work, family and disability support, employment promotion and educational work, intercultural social work, work with the elderly, help for the homeless and social neighbourhood development. In international development cooperation, competences in social space are expected as well as in the development and management of social enterprises in the service sector. The Master's degree opens the way to a doctoral degree. Co-operation agreements have been passed with the universities of Kassel and Frankfurt.
