Social Work (Bachelor)

SUPPORTING PEOPLE PROFESSIONALLY & SHAPING SOCIETY

Social work focuses on social change, social developments, social cohesion and the individual strengthening of autonomy and self-determination. Its aim is to support people in different life situations in shaping their lives on their own responsibility, but also in perceiving and further developing social processes.

Whether you end up working as a social worker in the field of street work, advocating for human rights at an NGO, managing a youth welfare office, or helping refugees navigate the bureaucratic jungle: Studying at Fulda University of Applied Sciences will prepare you for a future in any of the many different fields of Social Work.

International orientation

Social work is international. Study all over the world. We will support you during your semester abroad.

  • Are you open-minded and good at approaching people?
  • Are you interested in social processes and want to play an active role in shaping them?
  • Do you find it exciting to acquire competences from different professions (e.g. psychology, education, social law)?
  • Do you want a meaningful job for your future that is also absolutely crisis-proof?

Then social work is the right place for you!

  • The study programme has an interdisciplinary structure and comprises 7 semesters.
  • With modules related to practice from the second semester onwards, you will apply your theoretical knowledge directly to practice. One focus during your university studies is on methodological training, which will pay off later in your daily work in the social sector.
  • In elective specialisations, you will gain in-depth insights into selected fields of social work and can thus sharpen your professional profile. In addition, you will focus your perspectives on diversity in social work and acquire skills with regard to (social) policy issues.
  • In the fifth semester, you will complete an integrated work placement semester to achieve state recognition as a social pedagogue and social worker.
  • Good to know: a semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities can be completed within the standard duration of studies!

The application process for the study programme Social Work Presence is coordinated via the "Dialogue-oriented Service Procedure" (DoSV). The application portal "Hochschulstart.de" is at the centre of all activities, as everything begins with registration in this system - and this is also where all information comes together later.
