Social Work - dual (Bachelor)

Social Work - dual

Study at the same time and work

A dual study programme means working in the field at the same time as studying. So while you are studying social work, you will also be working for one of our cooperation partners in the field of social work.

This enables both an intensive theory-practice connection as well as training in which everyone involved appreciates the connection to practice and this is also reflected in the course content and study tasks.

At the same time, the organisation of this study programme as an online course with only one monthly practical block (5 x per semester on Friday and Saturday) means that you can live and work independently of the place of study and, if necessary, travel to Fulda for the attendance blocks.

Blended learning concept

There are 3 learning providers: your placement provider, the online e-learning platform, one attendance weekend per month.

By organising this study programme as an online course with only one monthly practical block (5 x per semester on Friday and Saturday), you can study at the Fulda University of Applied Sciences and live and work in your home town, travelling to Fulda for the attendance blocks if necessary.

BASA-dual is primarily aimed at people,

  • who want to secure their livelihood and study at the same time,
  • who are already working in a voluntary capacity in social work, e.g. in self-help organisations, and would like to establish themselves professionally in the field of social work,
  • who have discovered the professional field of social work for themselves, i.e. intend to change careers and would like to qualify for it.

The study programme is studied on a dual basis in the concept of "blended learning", with three learning locations: You as a student

  • work a minimum of 15 to a maximum of 28 hours per week at your placement provider
  • study online via an e-learning platform from home (approx. 20 hours per week)
  • come to Fulda University of Applied Sciences once a month for an on-campus weekend (Friday and Saturday).

The study load is 210 credit points according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), of which 115 credit points are acquired through self-study and 65 credit points through attendance and project work (1 credit point corresponds to a workload of approximately 30 hours).

Acquisitions of state recognition earn you 30 credit points.

Applicants contact the university to find out about possible cooperation partners and then send their application to the placement providers named.

The second step is to apply to the university once the learning agreement has been signed with a cooperation partner.

The application period at the university starts on 15 April at: www.hs-fulda.de/studium/ihre-bewerbung

The closing date for applications is 30 September - we recommend an early application by 31 July.

The timetable is as follows

  • Interested applicants apply directly to the cooperation partners
  • Degree of a learning agreement: by April
  • Recommended application period at Fulda University of Applied Sciences: 15 April to 31 July
  • Start of studies for the winter semester: October

Furthermore, a study agreement must have been concluded with a social work provider with a weekly working time of at least 15 to a maximum of 28 hours, and the provider of the dual study programme in social work must have concluded a cooperation agreement with Fulda University of Applied Sciences. This must also be in place.

Female students in the dual study programme

#lieberbeides: Dual study

Combining university studies with extended practical placements offers many advantages: The knowledge from the seminars can be used directly in practice and after completing your university studies, you start your career with the best career opportunities. With the monthly remuneration, a dual study programme is also financially worthwhile.

People at the centre A meaningful profession

drei Studierende arbeiten zusammen an einem Tisch

It is very likely that you will be able to find a job with your practical placement partner after your university studies, as you will have been able to combine theory and practice at an early stage. This makes you attractive, also for other employers.

Thanks to the relevant professional experience you have already gained during your university studies, you can also be placed in positions of responsibility more quickly.

After completing your degree, you can of course also continue on to a (part-time) Master's degree programme.
