Excellent conditions for researchers HRS4R

Fulda University of Applied Sciences is the first institution in Hesse to receive the European Commission's HR Excellence in Research Award

Researchers at Fulda University of Applied Sciences are offered a "stimulating and positive working environment". This was the conclusion drawn by the European Commission. In February 2021, it recognised Fulda University of Applied Sciences with the HR Excellence in Research Award.

In the course of the application, a Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) was developed to offer researchers an attractive working environment and good career paths at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. It aims to use this to further consolidate research as an important strategic field of action. Fulda University is committed to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. Researchers at all career levels should be offered the best possible conditions to enable them to pursue high-level research.

A working group made up of representatives from science and research, administration, the Presidential Board Office and committees have conducted an internal analysis of the following four thematic core areas:

1. Ethical and professional principles

e.g. ethical principles, accountability, contractual and legal obligations, public engagement, dissemination and exploitation of results, evaluation systems

2. Recruitment and selection

e.g. selection, transparency, recognition of mobility

3. Working conditions and social security

e.g. stability and permanence of employment, funding and salaries, gender balance, work-life balance

4. Training and professional development

e.g. professional support, continuing education & development

The aim of these development fields is to improve working conditions for researchers and continue to raise the profile of research as a profession. To enforce the principles of the Charter even more rigorously in its everyday activities, Fulda University developed its own Human Resources Strategy for Researchers. All the measures are formalised in a plan of action to guarantee the ongoing development and improvement of the research environment. As part of these measures, open, transparent and merit-based recruitment guidelines for researchers were drawn up at Fulda University of Applied Sciences.
