A game of boules after work

On 1 July 2026, the University Sports featured a straightforward, classic after-work activity: a game of boules in the fresh air. In a relaxed atmosphere, friendly conversation mingled with a touch of sporting spirit – making for an all-round pleasant way to round off the day.

The boules court on the campus – where exactly?

Many people aren’t even aware of it yet: the boules court is situated above the cafeteria and the library. The game is played on the typical gravel surface, which is ideal for getting started on the spur of the moment. Good to know: the access is barrier free.

A quick introduction – then we got straight down to it

To ensure everyone could join in straight away, there was a brief introduction at the start covering the key rules and how the game is played, as well as a quick practice session on technique. Afterwards, we played in four teams of two. Between moments of concentration and relaxed exchange, we struck just the right balance between exercise and relaxation.

At the end, one participant summed it up perfectly: “Oh, we could do this more often…” 
That’s exactly the beauty of boules: it’s quick to organise, requires very little equipment and is perfect for a spontaneous game on campus.

You can play boules whenever you fancy

If you’re feeling up to it: you can borrow boules from the SSC during its opening times. The court is available at any time for a spontaneous game – it’s simple and hassle-free.

Perhaps that’s the perfect plan for your next summer’s day: grab a fellow student or colleague, borrow some boules and play a game above the cafeteria / refectory.
