60 km on foot for the Fulda food bank

This year's charity long-distance hike organised by University Sports celebrated its ninth birthday with the traditionally challenging 60.28 km route.

This year's charity long-distance hike organised by University Sports celebrated its ninth anniversary with the traditionally challenging 60.28 km route. A total of 39 participants mastered the challenge through the picturesque Rhön under the experienced guidance of Prof Dr Marc Birringer. The route managed the hikers past the most beautiful natural and hiking highlights of the Rhön, including the Steinwand, the Red Moor and the Cascade Gorge, and offered them an unforgettable experience.
At kilometre 46, a University Sports aid station in the historic castle park of Gersfeld provided a well-deserved break.

Thanks to the long-standing friendly support of the Waldthausen forestry administration and the lord of the castle, Constantin v. Waldthausen, University Sports was once again able to set up the rest stop in the wonderful historical ambience of the baroque castle - thank you very much!

Despite the physical and mental effort and the 79,000 steps, all participants reached the finish line with a smile - the first after just 11.25 hours! "It's an incredibly uplifting feeling to have achieved this!" said one participant at the final dinner in the Kneshecke.
The combination of athletic performance and community spirit made the course a complete success and managed to set a new record for the ninth edition with 39 finishers.

The participation fees totalling 730 euros from the charity walk organised by University Sports were topped up by a contribution from the president of Fulda University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Karim Khakzar, and will be donated to the Tafel Fulda association.
Since its foundation in 2004, Tafel Fulda has been committed to distributing edible food that can no longer be sold in shops to people in need. In this way, Tafel Fulda makes an important contribution to reducing food waste and at the same time supports people in need of help by giving them access to essential food. We would like to support this valuable work with our basic scholarship.
