Open Chess Tournament in the summer semester 2025

30 Jun 2025

Tournament once again attracts many chess enthusiasts

On Friday, 27 June, the fourth edition of the Open Chess Tournament of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences took place. The 20-strong field of participants battled for the title in seven rounds. The game was played in the established Swiss system, in which pairings are drawn between players with the same number of points wherever possible. Each player has ten minutes per game and receives an extra two seconds per move.

The field of participants was very evenly matched, resulting in an exciting tournament. Niklas Karn showed his structured style of play in the top duels and won all seven games. Behind him, a battle for the podium developed. Here, Christian Osterloh came out on top with 5 points due to the better second score against Michel Mönster (also 5 points) and took a course for 2nd place. The 4th place was shared by Lennart Greb and Alisa Kozlova (also 5 points each).
