Actively involved: University Sports at HS Fulda got the cycling semester off the ground

University Sports at Fulda University of Applied Sciences was represented at the "Sustainability meets Health" symposium in Hanover with a poster on the cycling semester. The course focussed on ideas on how the topics of sustainability and health can be better combined in everyday university life.

There were some exciting ideas right at the start: Lea Dohm (KLUG e.V.) discussed strategies for dealing with the climate crisis on an individual basis. Prof Dr Sonia Lippke (HAW Hamburg) spoke about the experience of loneliness at universities and how, for example, open days of action for sustainable campus design can create positive synergies between promoting the mental health of university members and funding a climate-friendly working environment.

Workshops focussed on topics such as sustainable mobility, healthy nutrition and the funding of sustainability skills in the university context. Participants were able to learn about practical examples from other universities and develop ideas for new projects.

One highlight for us was the presentation of our poster on the Fulda University of Applied Sciences' bicycle semester. It met with a lot of interest and managed to generate good conversations and new ideas.

Our conclusion: The symposium once again showed how important it is to exchange ideas between different disciplines in order to jointly establish sustainable and health-promoting university structures.
