World Street Workout & Calisthenics Federation (WSWCF) - Calisthenics World Championship 2025

Calisthenics is a physical training programme with self-weight exercises that supports general strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. Typical practice classes include pull-ups, push-ups and dips. They can be performed both outdoors and indoors without any major equipment. In calisthenics competitions, athletes are assessed on several criteria to take into account both technical performance and creativity.

There are currently no university championships for the sport of calisthenics. Background information: The German University Championships (DHM) is the central competition format of the German University Sports Federation (adh). Examples of this are: Athletics, volleyball. In addition, the competition programme is supplemented by courses such as the German University Cup (DHP), for example in volleyball with a specialisation in small universities, the adh Open, for example in fistball, and the adh Trophy, for example in sport boxing, which set alternative priorities.

In calisthenics, there are international competitions and courses organised by organisations such as the World Street Workout & Calisthenics Federation (WSWCF). The World Calisthenics Championships took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 24 to 27 April 2025. Athletes from all over the world competed against each other in various weight classes and disciplines.

Mazen ElSharnouby (Department of Health Sciences, Global Health (B.Sc.)) competed in the lightweight class and put in an outstanding performance.

He successfully fought his way through to the semi-finals, where he faced a strong Bulgarian athlete. In an intense duel full of dynamism and strength, he prevailed and advanced to the final.

Mazen was supported in this endeavour by a competition agreement from the University Sports department at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, whose T-shirt he wore during the competition. In the final, Mazen once again put in a strong performance and ultimately secured second place in his category and the runner-up title.

University Sports congratulates Mazen on his performance and emphasises the importance of calisthenics in the (university) sports landscape and the opportunity to provide competitive experience for university members. For Mazen, the course in Sofia was an unforgettable experience of top-class sport and international exchange. Overall, competitive sport enriches the student experience by supporting physical, social and personal development.
It also supports students and strengthens the university community.

If you fancy calisthenics, there are calisthenics parks in the Fulda-Auen and Grezzbach-Park in Fulda. Probably the largest attachment is located in Großenlüder.
