The "Zukunftswochen" ("Future Weeks") will start in 2025 with the topic "Climate". They are a joint project of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences, the Umweltzentrum Fulda e. V., the climate protection management of the district and the city of Fulda, the adult education centre of the district of Fulda and the Vogelsberg climate education landscape.

For a fortnight, a varied program from the participating institutions and their partner organisations is open to all interested parties. The Future Weeks highlight climate protection and adaptation from very different perspectives and have something to offer for every target group. The program starts on 05.05.2025 and lasts until 16.05.2025.

program

Time: 08:00 - 13:00 | Location: Environmental Centre Fulda, Johannisstr. 44, 36041 Fulda

Energy determines everyone's everyday life. After learning about the greenhouse effect, pupils will learn about the advantages and disadvantages of different energy sources and assess their sustainability. The unfair distribution of energy use in different parts of the world is brought to life in a playful way and the global consequences are discussed and assessed together. Experiments and stations on heat and electricity give pupils an insight into the physical relationships. They discover and try out practical ways to save energy in the school building, which they can also use in the future.

Note: Duration approx. 4 hours, bookable between 08:00 and 13:00

Assistant: Philipp Tito Garzon | Course: Umweltzentrum Fulda e. V. | supported by the City of Fulda

Registration by 28 April at umweltzentrum@fulda.de | Contribution towards costs €4.00 | Target group: Grades 4 - 6

Time: 09:00 - 13:00 | Location: Fulda Environmental Centre, Johannisstr. 44, 36041 Fulda

The learning workshop has a modular structure and comprises the 3 main topics "Scientific basics of climate change", "Consequences of climate change and adaptation" and "Climate protection and renewable energies".
In all modules, reference is made to global aspects as well as to the state of Hesse and the Hessian Climate Protection Plan. The modules are designed to be interactive and allow pupils to find access to topics that are difficult to grasp, e.g. through self-determined learning at stations and by means of experiments, and thus establish a connection to their own actions.
The different focal points of the individual modules enable broad access to the topic of climate change and facilitate the interdisciplinary treatment of the topic.
Further information on the content can be found on the climate education portal of the state of Hesse.
The experimental stations allow pupils to familiarise themselves with a wide range of scientific phenomena using practical examples. Afterwards, the most important findings are summarised together and connections are worked out.

Assistant: Dr. Martin Jatho, AZN Naturerlebnishaus e. V. in Kirtorf (Vogelsbergkreis) | Course: Umweltzentrum Fulda e. V. | supported by the City of Fulda

Martin Jatho from the AZN Nature Experience Centre in Kirtorf (Vogelsberg district) uses a variety of experimental stations to show us, for example, what thermal radiation is, why carbon dioxide plays an important role and what it all has to do with our climate.
An informative and exciting afternoon that enables us to understand the basics of climate change using practical, vivid examples.
The experiments are part of the climate education programme "Lernwerkstatt Klimawandel Sek I", which can be booked by secondary schools throughout Hesse. Qualified multipliers are employed throughout Hesse and come to schools to carry out the experiments. The target groups of the study programmes offered are secondary schools with grades (8), 9, 10, (11).

What has been achieved since 2021, what tasks still lie ahead and what new measures must now be decided and implemented in order to achieve the goal of climate neutrality for the university by 2030? In addition to an exciting presentation by Dr Niklas Reinfandt, member of the academic staff of the Expert Council for Climate Issues and Head of the Energy Policy Business Unit at Fraunhofer ISI, on the state of climate policy in Germany, we want to gather impulses for updating the climate protection concept at our central sustainability event.

The Wirgarten has a large stock of old wood and thus contributes to the protection of our climate. But why is that? What role do trees play in the climate? Together you will collect climate data in different areas of the Wirgarten (e.g. by measuring temperature, light intensity and soil moisture) and analyse it. In a subsequent discussion, you will discuss the role that trees play in binding CO2 and develop ideas on how the climate can be protected.

Please ensure you are dressed for the weather. If you would like to stay in the Wirgarten with your group after the offer, there is an additional entrance fee.
