Sustainable mobility

Fulda University of Applied Sciences supports sustainable mobility for business travel and provides good framework conditions for everyday commuting.

After all, each person makes their daily journey to the university individually: on foot, by bike, by public transport, by car, by carpool or by a combination of different modes of transport. The emissions balance of the Fulda University of Applied Sciences' climate protection concept clearly shows the influence of daily journeys to and from the university for all members of staff. Commuting accounts for around 84% of greenhouse gas emissions from university operations and will therefore be scrutinised in a mobility concept to be developed by the end of 2025.

Our extensive range of information and attractive framework conditions are already giving all university members the opportunity to reduce these emissions.

With participatory involvement and in collaboration with the AStA, the Sustainable Mobility Working Group, the Fulda University/City/District Mobility Working Group and other divisions of the university administration, we are making an ongoing contribution to improving the offer.

Commuter mobility

Further bike repair stations can be found at the railway station (platform 1) and at the Teo-Markets (Linden- and Petersberger Straße, Ochsenwiese).

Since 2022, the FahrRad semester has been taking place at the university every summer semester. It is organised by Sports Centre and the Sustainability Office and is held under the motto "Cycling for climate and health". The varied program comprises action stands on campus, including free of charge bike repairs, guided bike tours and workshops on cycling sports. Presentations, bike coding and advice are also regularly on the program.

Every year, "Team Fulda University of Applied Sciences" takes part in the city cycling campaign. In the city cycling campaign, which takes place at different times throughout Germany, municipalities set a period of time and motivate their citizens to collect as many kilometres as possible by bike during this campaign period. The city of Fulda also sets an annual period for the campaign and the university always appoints a large team.

City Cycling 2024 will take place from 27 June to 17 July 2024. All information and the opportunity to register directly for the Fulda University of Applied Sciences team can be found on the Fulda University of Applied Sciences City Cycling page.

If you need to transport a little more, you have the option of borrowing a cargo bike free of charge in Fulda. The Allerleihrad project offers various e-cargo bikes that you can easily reserve online.

Since May 2025, Fulda offers the FuldaBike - a bike hire system with several stations in Fulda where e-bikes and e-cargo bikes can be rented using an app.

There is also such a station on the university campus: directly on Leipziger Straße, at the campus entrance between buildings 20 and 30.

You can find all the information about the FuldaBike, the costs and the bike hire stations here.

ERNEUER:BAR

At the ERNEUER:BAR, you will find voluntary repair assistants who know all about bicycles.

While the repair assistants repair the bike free of charge, you will be shown the individual components of a bike and how you can carry out minor repairs on the bike yourself in the future. You can also discuss which spare parts you need on site. You then bring these with you.

In the spirit of sustainability: The ERNEUER:BAR also offers repair help for other items!

The opening times of the ERNEUER:BAR can be found on the homepage.

AWO

The AWO bicycle workshop is another place to get your bike repaired at a favourable price. The young people from Lohn und Brot manage all the usual repairs under supervision. Common, used spare parts are available or can be procured promptly.

In the spirit of sustainability, you will also find a selection of affordable second-hand bikes here. There is also an annual AWO bicycle bazaar on campus where used bikes can be purchased (it was held again in spring 2024 for the first time after the coronavirus pandemic).

The opening times of the AWO can be found on the homepage.

You can plan cycle tours with the Hessen cycle route planner.

You can report anomalies, requests for improvement and suggestions directly to the city of Fulda via the cycle traffic reporting platform.
