Jordan Innovation Center for Logistics - JOINOLOG

Please scroll down for the english version of the article

Project Objective

The aim of the BMBF-funded research project JOINOLOG (Jordan Innovation Center for Logistics) is to design an innovation center for logistics in Jordan. In such an incubator, innovations - also with regard to local and regional specifics - are to be advanced through the cooperation of business, science and politics. This will take the form of direct project cooperation as well as scientific collaboration and publication. Furthermore, logistics trainings are aimed at, which will impart specific expertise of logistics. Finally, through this cooperation and possible innovations, an improvement of the local and regional logistics infrastructure as well as a networking of the stakeholders shall be achieved. Through JOINOLOG, the ecosystem for logistics innovations in Jordan shall be strengthened sustainably by supporting the framework conditions, but also the application orientation of research and research transfer.

Partners

The project is executed by Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the German Jordanian University (GJU). On the German side, Prof. Michael Huth is the scientific director and Sascha Düerkop and Jakob Grubmüller are research associates. On the Jordanian side, Dr. Ismail Abushaikha is leading the project and is supported by Rana Badran, who acts as Business Development Manager on site. In a Project Advisory Board (PAB), several organizations with a logistical focus support the project. In addition to representatives of the private sector, public actors are also represented by the Ministry of Transport and the Higher Council of Science and Technology (HCST).

Institutions from Jordan and Germany act as associated partners and supporters. By involving a wide range of institutions from science, industry and politics, a broad and deep know-how was already brought in during the preparatory phase and the cooperative character of JOINOLOG was demonstrated.

Methodology

During a one-year preparatory phase, the implementation concept for the collaborative innovation center was developed by October 2019. For this purpose, a detailed analysis of Jordanian structures in terms of logistics, innovation and research has been conducted. The collaborative character of JOINOLOG was already evident in this phase: for example, key results were developed in the context of joint workshops in Amman, in which representatives of all associated partners worked together. The concept of JOINOLOG also incorporates success factors from best-practice approaches of already existing innovation centers for logistics.

The developed concept served as the basis for the application for funding of the implementation phase, which started in February 2021. Within three project years, a practical implementation of JOINOLOG as a network is currently taking place.
