Cooperative Doctoral Programmes

Cooperative doctoral projects are currently being carried out with 27 universities in Germany and four other European countries. A cooperative doctoral degree is essentially possible with any university authorised to confer doctoral degrees if an appropriate professor is willing to supervise a degree as part of a cooperative doctoral procedure.

A cooperative doctoral programme has existed with the University of Kassel since 2011.
Individual departments at Fulda University also have bilateral doctoral agreements with universities or university departments in Germany or abroad.

Cooperative doctoral programme with the University of Kassel

The presidential boards of Fulda University and the University of Kassel agreed on a joint doctoral programme in February 2011 which covers all departments at the two universities.

The programme includes:

  • cooperative supervision by a professor at Fulda University and a professor at the University of Kassel
  • help finding a suitable doctoral supervisor by the doctoral programme representatives of the two universities
  • use of the "Services for doctoral students at the University of Kassel" by doctoral students at Fulda University and vice versa
  • opportunity to attend a doctoral research group or a doctoral work group on a specific subject
  • consultation with doctoral programme representatives of the two universities regarding an individual funding plan

This doctoral programme, however, does not guarantee supervision by the University of Kassel; it is up to each professor to decide whether or not to supervise a cooperative doctoral degree.
