FAQs

What if I cannot join the Welcome Week?

We would like to give you the best possible start to your studies. That's why we kick off the semester with a mandatory Welcome Week. You can find the programme here as well as in horstl in the course catalogue.

The Welcome Week is part of the module “Intercultural Communication“ (GH 1/PG1709) from the first semester. In order to receive ECTS credits for the module, you must, in addition to receiving a passing grade on the exam, attend at least 80% of the Welcome Week. If you are unable to attend the Welcome Week, you must therefore attend the Welcome Week in the subsequent summer semester in order to successfully complete the module.

However, if you miss the Welcome Week but are here in time for the first week of lectures, you can still take part in all other lectures in this module in the summer semester, as well as the examinations.

What happens if I arrive after the start of the semester?

As a campus university, we prioritise in-class teaching and generally do not offer online or hybrid lectures.

Late arrival policy: Students arriving after the start of the semester must catch up on the missed lectures through self-study. These students must also actively follow up on all other information about starting your studies – such as understanding course registration procedures, our communication platform “Moodle” as well as our support services.

The gap created through a late arrival must not be too large. Our experience suggests that catching up on the necessary information and course content following an arrival after May 15th will barely be possible. A later arrival does not mean that you cannot come to Fulda. You can prepare yourself accordingly, make yourself familiar with our campus, your new surroundings and catch up on the missed study materials. This would ease your transition into the subsequent semester. Depending on your arrival date, you may consider taking the “Language Acquisition“ (GH 2/PG1709) module in the summer semester, winter semester or lecture free time and then start studying the remaining first-semester modules of the Global Health programme in the summer semester 2027. Alternatively, you can delay the start of your studies until summer semester 2027 altogether. The modules from the second semester build on the content of the first semester. We therefore expressly recommend that you do not take part in the modules in the second semester without having completed those in the first semester.

Please only register in horstl for the modules that you will actually attend. If you are unable to attend an individual module or an entire semester (first and/or second semester), please do not register for the courses in horstl. You can stay enrolled as student without registering for modules in horstl.

After successful registration, this is available for independent download in horstl.

Your admission cannot be deferred to a later semester. Thus, when receiving our letter of acceptance you need to decide whether or not to enrol. Enrolling allows you to benefit from our late arrival policy, as outlined above. If you decide not to enrol (or to unregister), you will lose your place and you will need to reapply for a later semester. Your new application will not have any special priority in that case.

If you arriving late but are enrolling as a student at our university, your semester fees nevertheless need to be paid. This also applies if you are physically not able to be here.

Do you have questions regarding your admission?

The applications and admissions are centrally organized at our university. If you have any questions regarding your application or admission, please contact our “Student Administration”: horstl@hs-fulda.de
