Höckner archives

Georg Hilmar Höckner (b. 24 Dec. 1891 in Leipzig, d. 24 Jan. 1968 in Fürstenzell near Passau) studied at the Leipzig Conservatory and was initially a music teacher at the Dürer School in Hochwaldhausen (Vogelsberg) from 1917 to 1920. He came into contact with the youth music movement in 1921 and became head music teacher at Schloss Bieberstein (Rhön) in 1923. In 1946 he became the director of a private music seminar in Fulda. On assignment from the Hesse State Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, he acted as a state music advisor from 1947 and was a member of the examination committee for the state private music teacher examination.

Since the transfer of ownership in 1937, part of Hilmar Höckner's private library (books, journals and sheet music) has been housed in the HLB. After Höckner's death, almost the entire written bequest was brought to Hamburg with other material by the then director of the archives of the youth music movement, Heinrich Schumann, and is now housed in the archives of the German youth movement
at Burg Ludwigstein (Witzenhausen). The name Höckner-Archiv is therefore misleading, but has been passed since the commemorative publication on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Hessian State Library in 1978.

In this commemorative publication, Heinrich Schumann published a contribution on "Hilmar Höckner's life and work. On the "Höckner archives" of the Hessische Landesbibliothek Fulda." See: Von der Klosterbibliothek zur Landesbibliothek, ed. by Artur Brall, pp. 421-442.

Use:
The collection is subject to the identical conditions of use as the other stock. However, the printed music can be found almost exclusively via the capsule catalogue and not yet in FILIP.
