We’re all familiar with selfies. Pictures that we share of ourselves are meant to convey an impression or even a message: ‘This is what I look like.’ ‘This is me.’ Deeper questions about one’s own identity also arise: ‘Who am I?’ ‘What defines me?’ ‘Who do I want to be?’
Women with a migrant background from Bremen/Blumenthal have explored these questions and created expressive images. Self-portraits were painstakingly crafted by hand, peppered with symbols and short texts that illustrate ideas and aspirations.
On display are striking works created by the women as part of the Bremen-based ‘NEUE Wolle’ project, with the support of textile artists Luisa Recker and Aurelia Maria Foti.
HLSB Fulda is hosting the exhibition from 23 October to 14 November 2026 at its campus location during its usual opening times. The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday, 27 October at 2 pm.
