Robotics

With robotics, we want to make a socially relevant, technological development accessible and comprehensible to a broad public.

Have you always wanted to get to know robots better and know how they work? With the Bee-Bot, Dash, Cozmo and Nao robots, it is possible to familiarise yourself with technology in a playful way and develop an understanding of its function.

Some robots can be borrowed to try out at home. The youngest children from the age of 4 can try out programming with bee robots, so-called Bee-Bots. With the Dash and Cozmo, children from 5 to 12 years learn programming in an uncomplicated way. Nao, a humanoid robot, provides easy access to a computer-controlled figure and can be found in the children's and youth section.

Bee Bot robots are small robots in the shape of a bee that can be easily programmed by pressing buttons. With the Bee-Bots, preschool children from the age of 4 gain an insight into elementary robotics and learn programming with the help of codes. They learn that robots or computers carry out commands and do not act independently.

Together with a charging cable, an instruction manual as well as a transparent floor mat and command cards that are inserted into the mat, the Bee-Bots can be used as a media box can be borrowed as a media box. The loan period is 28 days. Anyone with a valid library card can borrow media boxes.
The BeeBots were purchased with the help of funding from the Sparkassenkooperation of Fulda University of Applied Sciences.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, Cozmo can express hundreds of emotions. Play with him or admit him to roaming free. He is clever and can recognise people and animals. He's more than just a toy: with Code Lab you can control everything he can do. He is super intelligent and super funny.

Included are: 1 Cozmo robotics, 1 charging station and 3 Interactive Power Cubes. The android is suitable for children aged 8 to 12+.

The Cozmo app can only be used with the iOS operating system. An iPad can be borrowed on loan, subject to availability.

You can find Cozmo at the service desk on the ground floor and can borrow it for 4 weeks.

The friendly Cubetto robot made of wood allows children from the age of 3 to try their hand at programming. It does not need a screen or keyboard and is controlled independently of a smartphone or tablet with the help of an electronic wooden board and arrow-shaped blocks. It playfully introduces the programming concepts of algorithms, queuing, debugging and recursion. In the process, it promotes problem-solving skills as well as the ability to abstract and is a lot of fun for the children.
The Cubetto robot is used in Montessori education and promotes STEM skills. You can find it in the children's and young people's department and borrow it for 4 weeks.

The Dash is a mobile robot that can be controlled with apps on a tablet (a tablet can also be borrowed from the HLSB) or smartphone. A tablet or smartphone with Bluetooth connection is required to download and use the free applications. No existing internet connection is required for control and programming.
It is suitable for children from 5 to 12 years.

This robot can move around, reacts to speech, recognises sounds and can detect and avoid obstacles. The Dash can be used to adjust movements, light effects and sounds, as well as to record your own voice.
The Dash can be borrowed in a media box together with a charging cable, an instruction manual and 4 pylon cones. The loan period is 28 days.

Nao is a humanoid robot. He can be found in the children's and youth section. He can speak, move his arms, legs and head and also answer questions. Nao recognises speech, faces and objects. The HLSB's Nao is called Roberta.
With the help of library funding from the Kommunaler Finanz-Ausgleich (KFA), Nao was acquired for the promotion of children and young people in the STEM area to provide an easy and playful introduction to technology and programming.
