Incunabula
The HLSB's stock includes 431 incunabula, i.e. prints from the period between the invention of printing with movable type by Johannes Gutenberg up to and including the year 1500.
The collection has so far only been inadequately indexed by the old capsule catalogue at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location. Online research is possible via the Incunabula Short Title Catalogue (ISTC), which is managed by the British Library in London. These records contain the author, the title, the publication date, the format, all the usual references in the description of incunabula as well as any reproductions - microfiches, microfilms and, more recently, digital copies. The ownership records are listed separately by country, but in order to obtain the corresponding shelf mark, research must be carried out on site in the capsule catalogue. 58 incunabula can be found in the complete catalogue of cradle prints. Cataloguing and academic description of the collection is still pending.
An overview can be found here: Riethmüller, Marianne: "...nach Durchsicht der Fragmente-Kiste ist von Teilen des catholicon nichts festzustellen" - die Inkunabelsammlung der Hochschul- und Landesbibliothek Fulda, in: "Der Weise lese und erweitert sein Wissen". Use:
The use of incunabula is only possible by prior written appointment.
