Deposit copies

An important task of the HLSB is the exercise of the regional legal deposit right. This obliges the library to collect, catalogue and archive all literature published in its region and to keep it available for users.

The HLSB holds the deposit copy right for the district of Fulda. Publishers in this region, as well as authors and editors who self-publish their writings within or outside the book trade, are obliged to hand in one copy of their publications to the library free of charge within one month and at their own expense. This includes books, maps, grades, calendars with explanatory texts, magazines and newspapers in printed and (since September 2017) also in electronic form, as well as media works in image and sound that are distributed in physical form or made accessible in non-physical form. New editions or reprints must also be submitted.

The basis for this obligation is the Hessian Library Act (Hess BiblG) of 20 September 2010 (GVBl of the State of Hesse of 23 September 2010) and the Ordinance on the Compulsory Delivery of Media Works (PflAV) of 29 November 2024 (GVBl of the State of Hesse of 10 December 2024).

Please send deposit copies to the following address:

Fulda University of Applied Sciences Library
Depository
Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz 12
36037 Fulda

Submission of electronic deposit copies:

If you publish electronically (e.g. e-books or e-journals), we offer you two options for submitting e-deposit copies: manual submission via a web form and an automated procedure via a previously set up hotfolder. For the automated submission procedure, metadata must be provided in addition to the publications.

Before submitting electronic deposit copies, please contact:
ablieferung-epflicht(at)hlb.hs-fulda.de

Further information on the e-requirement and the submission procedure can be found here: https://epflicht-hessen.hebis.de

Usage:

The deposit copies are recorded in FILIP. They can only be used in the reading room. As a rule, the HLSB acquires an additional copy that can be borrowed on loan. A computer is available in the reading room at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location for the use of electronic deposit copies, some of which are not freely accessible online due to a requirement of the publisher.
