Regional Literature

The original state library tasks of the HLB at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location include the acquisition and cataloguing of Regional Literature, the so-called "Fuldensien".

By this we mean literature relating to Fulda (city and district), the Rhön (all parts, i.e. Bavarian, Hessian and Thuringian Rhön) and the former Fulda areas (e.g. Hammelburg).
The aim is to collect, catalogue and archive this group of literature as completely as possible - not as an end in itself, however, but also as a regional library.

For the greater district of Fulda (the former districts of Fulda and Hünfeld as well as the city of Fulda), the HLB Fulda has the task of deposit copy right to fulfil the compulsory copy right. This means that some "Fulda literature" (but also literature on other topics) is already in the library.
There is also a special focus on works by authors who live in the Fulda / East Hesse area or have a special connection to the region, e.g. were born here or are active in literature or academic research.

The "Fuldensia stock" is systematically organised under its own shelf mark group in the closed stacks and is given a shelf mark consisting of the abbreviation "Fuld" plus various numbers separated by a slash, e.g.: "Fuld 52/14/510".
As the books are held in the stacks, they are not freely accessible to readers, but must be ordered online via the catalogue.
A selection of the "Fuldensien" can also be found in the classification group "40 / Fuld ..." in the reading room.

The "Fuldensia" will continue to be incorporated into the old systematic capsule catalogue. There you will find a complete overview of the Fuldensia literature.
In order to provide a context for this group of literature, this system will be continued until a fundamental revision.
Of course, the Fuldensian literature can also be found in the FILIPthe search portal of the HLB.

The HLB is involved in compiling the "Hessian Bibliography".
For searching Regional Literature we also recommend WEBISa website that summarises the main collections of German libraries.
Another useful tool is the Virtual German Regional Bibliography. This is a meta-catalogue providing evidence of regional literature in Germany.
