Law and research data
In order to address the uncertainties in the legal handling of research data, HeFDI has compiled a handout based on the abridged version of the expert opinion on the legal framework of research data management (as of 12.07.2018) by Anne Lauber-Rönsberg, Philipp Krahn, Paul Baumann.
Handout on the legal framework for research data management:
The purpose of the handout is to provide researchers and research data managers with an easy-to-understand approach to legal issues concerning research data. The files consist of animated presentations in an editable format. The clearly designed material can be used both in training courses on data management and in concrete advisory processes.
The Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (HBDI) provides assistance in creating a data protection concept for academic theses or doctoral projects.
Legal guidelines were supplemented in summer 2024 with information on the practical implementation of legal and ethical requirements when handling (sensitive) personal research data: What needs to be considered for informed consent, anonymisation and, if applicable, data use agreements (for limited subsequent use by other researchers)?
