Desks and study rooms
The HLB offers you a variety of different work spaces and rooms for reading, studying and learning at both the Campus and Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location.
You can choose between desks and PC workstations at both locations. In addition to numerous individual desks, we also offer rooms for group work or quiet work. At the Campus location, we have also set up barrier-free desk and a workstation for people with visual impairments. A WiFi network is available almost everywhere in the library.
In addition to the numerous desks, you will also find readers cafés where you can relax and exchange ideas.
To enable everyone to work in a concentrated manner, we ask you to be considerate. Please pay particular attention to our library rules and the HLB's rules of use.
Eleven carrels are available at the Campus location. All of them are located on the 1st floor. Two carrels are suitable for wheelchairs.
The carrels can be used with prior reservation or, if they are free, without reservation. Only students of Fulda University of Applied Sciences can reserve a carrel.
Please note that a carrel may only be used by one person.
A total of eleven group study rooms are available at the Campus location for collaborative work for groups of 3 to a maximum of 8 or 13 people. You will find four group study rooms on the 1st floor and the remaining seven on the 2nd floor.
The group workrooms can be used with prior reservation or, if they are free, without reservation. Only students of Fulda University can reserve the group study rooms.
A study room for pupils and students is available at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location on the 1st floor/annex.
This room is located above the rooms of the Childrens and Young Adults Department and can be reached via the lift in the annex. It is open especially for pupils and students who want to study there or work in a team to write a presentation or paper. This is not a quiet reading room, but a learning meeting place with PCs and a variety of seating.

At the Campus location, you will find double and single desks for free use along the window fronts on the 1st and 2nd floors. Some seats are suitable for wheelchairs.
All tables are equipped with a desk reservation disk to prevent permanent reservation of desks.
The reading room is located at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location on the 1st floor.
Here you will find:
Approx. 11,000 volumes from all fields of knowledge. These are mainly
- general and special reference works
- important handbooks and textbooks
- dictionaries
- law collections and commentaries
The holdings are systematically arranged according to the Regensburg Union Classification.
You will also find
- a selection of approx. 250 periodicals with the issues of the current year (periodicals reading room)
- the daily newspapers of the region as well as some weekly newspapers.
Here you can
- work quietly, mostly undisturbed
- work with the reference holdings in the reading room
- consult books that are not for loan and have been ordered to the reading room
- read periodicals and newspapers that are available in the reading room/periodicals reading room
Please note:
- No registration is required to use the reading room, but library card or ID card is required for copying/scanning.
- Outerwear and bags should be locked in the lockers on the ground floor.
- Food and drinks are not allowed in the reading room. For breaks you can use the readers café on the ground floor.
- Conversations should be held outside the reading room and mobile phones and laptops should be set to silent.
- The collections in the reading room and the periodicals reading room cannot be borrowed (also no weekend lending).
- Photocopiers and scanners are located on the ground floor and basement floor. Your ID card and photocopying permit will be deposited with the reading room supervisor.

- 1 research computer for supplementary literature research on the reading room holdings
- 1 CD-ROM computer

A number of Computer terminals with different functions are available at both locations.
At the Campus location, you will find catalogue and research computers in the foyer, in the area opposite the service desk, and in the training room on the ground floor.
You will find further Computer terminals on the 1st and 2nd floors near the lifts as well as a multimedia PC in the Special Collections room on the 2nd floor.
At the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location you will find catalogue tablets and research computers in the entrance area, 5 research computers in the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Saal and a research computer for supplementary literature research in the reading room.
For children and young people, there is a research computer, a catalogue tablet, a children's computer and a computer for young people at the Heinrich-von-Bibra-Platz location in the basement.
The children's computer are intended exclusively for children and young people.
At the Campus location, you will find a quiet study room on the 1st floor for concentrated work. Talking or telephoning as well as the use of notebooks are not permitted here.
At the Campus location on the ground floor, there is a training room that is mainly used for HLB's own training courses. If no training courses are taking place, you may use the computers available there.
