Titel des Promotionsprojektes: Returnee Migrants’ Re-integration Experiences and Prospects of Re-migration in Southwest Ethiopia
Abstract des Promotionsprojektes
The perilous journey of migrants from countries in the global south such as Ethiopia is researched and some of its aspects are well covered. Nevertheless, what remains insufficiently understood is returnees' experiences in the context of reintegration and the potential for re-migration (IOM, 2018). For the above and other related reasons, it is worth bringing this topic as the focus of this Ph.D. project. The researcher proposed focusing on rural areas in Southwest Ethiopia for the purpose of this research because it is one of Ethiopia's hotspots for both irregular and regular migrants. In fact, migration to the Middle East from this region of Ethiopia includes not only migrant workers but also Muslim communities traveling to Saudi Arabia for religious pilgrimage. The research aims to answer the following main question: What does it mean to be forced back to a place they had left (Southwest Ethiopia) and to consider returning to the same country which deported them (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or Europe). The researcher plans to utilize a qualitative ethnographic approach. The researcher will utilize Ethnographic design for answering the research questions raised. Ethnographic research is a qualitative research approach that involves observing variables in their natural environments or habitats in order to arrive at objective research outcomes. As the name suggests, ethnographic research has its roots in ethnography which is the in-depth study of people, cultures, habits, and mutual differences.
