Vortrag über Black Germany: Teaching History from the Margins

von Dr. Jeff Bowersox (University College, London, 19.00 Uhr in Gebäude 22, Raum P 217

German history is often taught around the story of the rise, fall, and redemption of a “nation,” and these stories have a tendency to make that nation appear
more coherent, monolithic, and stable that was actually the case. Just as an era of increasing migration draws attention to the diversity and mobility within German society in the present and the past, so too can turning our attention to blackness help us re-think basic assumptions about what it has meant to be German over the last 500 years.
